Ronald Edward May

December 25, 1934 — October 26, 2018

Ronald May, 83, died peacefully on October 26 at his home in Sandpoint, Idaho. Services will be held at North Summit Church(formerly First Christian Church) in the South Building on Division Street in Sandpoint on Saturday, December 1 at 10 am. Lunch and a time of reflection and sharing will follow. 
 
Ron was born December 25, 1934 in Ellensburg, Washington. His family moved to Big Sandy, MT and then Sandpoint in 1948 where his father Lawrence was pastor at the Church of God. He eloped and married his high school sweetheart at the age of 19 and a few years later had their two sons, Ronald Jr. and Burt. He and Loretta were happily married for 61 years.
 
Ron enjoyed skiing, photography, horses, square dancing with Retta and helping others.
 
Ron worked for many local businesses including Advertising Manager and Photographer for the Daily Bee, Sandpoint Motors, Clark Oil and a position on the City Council before starting his own business. He owned and operated the Colburn Landfill and later Ron May Trucking, which he and Loretta ran together. He is remembered by many in the community as generous and humble man. 
 
Ron served in the Army Reserves for 10 years and was a Board Member with the Selective Service for more than five years.
 
Ron had a passion for helping others and being involved in the community. He was president of the Lions Club, involved in the Panhandle Council of Boy Scouts, Idaho Jaycees and was an Elder at First Christian Church in Sandpoint for many years. Ron and Loretta spent much of the time with their grandchildren and family and enjoyed traveling in their RV stopping to visit family and friends. 
 
Later in life Ron was involved with Senior Center and was President of the local chapter. He was loved and cherished by girlfriend Jackie Miller and they enjoyed their time together with their pets.
 
He is survived by his two sons Ronald Jr. and Burt; siblings George, Bob, Lois, George and Ida; 8 grandchildren, Dan, Matt, Aprill, Robin, Chris, Lizz, BJ and Chelsea; and 9 great-grandchildren, Macie, Braedyn, Ainsley, Emma, McKinley, Ryder, Genevieve and Lachlan.
 
He is proceeded in death by his wife, Loretta Jean May; his parents Lawrence and Myrtle; and siblings; Alice, Jim and Bert.
