Sandra Claire Fields passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of October 16, 2020 with her husband, Andrew and her daughter, Deborah by her side.
She had battled Alzheimer’s for many years. Sandy (Sam) was the second of five siblings born to William Paul and Doris Idella Haak. She grew up in the Midwest moving from time to time when her father was called as a Lutheran minister to a new congregation. She attended high school and college in Concordia, NE. There she met her husband Andrew (KC). A music major, she also played the organ and sang in the choir. She was a good student and a cheerleader.
After college graduation, they were married in 1962. They took their first teaching jobs in Leavenworth, KS. From there she also taught in Lutheran and public schools in California, at Southside School in Bonner County, North Slope Borough of Alaska, Shanghai, China and Tucson, AZ. She preferred to teach primary grades with a special affinity for kindergarten and 1st Grade. She was patient and methodical, and had a real knack for teaching kids to read.
She attended First Lutheran Church in Sandpoint and was an organist and part of the choir for many years. Sandy was a beloved mother to her children, David Fields of Spokane and Deborah Crossett of Cocolalla. She was a faithful sidekick to her husband; Andy and they accomplished a lot together as a couple and as teaching pair. She was ever ready to lend a hand and was a beautiful role model for the power of teamwork.
Sandy will be laid to rest at Westmond Cemetery in a family graveside service.
Her parents and her brother, Loel Haak, precede her in death. Her husband, her two children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as her siblings, Diane Krueger, David Haak and Barry Haak, survive her.
Memorials can be addressed to the Alzheimer’s Association or Bonner General Health Community Hospice.
