Stephen "Steve" Wenke

Stephen “Steve” Wenke, 56, of Sandpoint, passed away suddenly late October, in Sandpoint, ID.

After college, Steve joined the Air Force as a pilot and traveled the world from Australia to Africa, and served in Operation Desert Storm. He continued his career as a commercial and test pilot after leaving the military and met the challenge of flying many types of planes.

Steve’s love of the outdoors started early with family camping trips to National Parks. He joined the Boy Scouts where he built his outdoor skills, progressing to achieve the highest honor of Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow.

His love of nature eventually led him to Sandpoint where he was able to surround himself in the area’s natural beauty. Hockey was his passion, and time spent with his loyal dog, Rocky, and friends were what he valued most.

Steve was a generous soul and will best be remembered for his willingness to help others and share his knowledge. He was preceded in death by his parents and will be missed by all who knew him.
